An Update from the Devs
It’s been a while since we’ve updated BlockTanks – the last update was the daily modes update about 3 months ago – but rest assured, we are still working hard on the game!
What exactly are we working on? Unfortunately, it’s nothing super interesting, but something that’s very necessary: we are redesigning most of the code for BlockTanks!
The reason why we are doing this is the same reason why you build a strong foundation for a house. If the foundation for a house is good, building the rest of the house is pretty straightforward. However, if the foundation is bad, it’s really difficult to build the rest of the house without worrying about it collapsing!
The BlockTanks code we have been using up until this point has been like a bad foundation – it’s not suitable for adding features and updates. So, we are taking a lot of time to redesign the code so that it’s much better. Updates and features should be much easier to add once we are done.
What’s Next?
We have a lot of progress with redesigning BlockTanks, but it’s no small task. We aim to be done later in the year, though we do not have an exact timeframe available. Once we are done, we will have two main priorities:
- Visuals: We hope to improve the UX of the game by adding more interesting visual elements (bullet trails and animations, for example).
- Performance: Additionally, we want to make BlockTanks more accessible on slower devices, such as Chromebooks and cheap tablets.
Additionally, we can also continue to update the daily modes before the code redesign is done. So, part of what I (Kevin) will focus on is streaming the game and adjusting the current public modes. So if you have suggestions for improving the current modes, please let me know!
