The Problem
Often, we get about 30-40 players online per region during peak hours. This is a decent amount of people, but despite that, the BlockTanks lobby can often feel empty. This is because we have five different game modes to choose from, which divides those players into many matches.
The Solution
This new update reduces the five permanent game modes down to two permanent game modes, plus an additional daily mode. Only free-for-all and 16v16 are left as permanent modes, but every weekday, there will be an extra daily game mode to keep things fresh!
The New Modes
If you like capture-the-flag and payload, don’t worry! They will still remain as daily modes. Along with them are three new game modes for the remaining weekdays:
Dodgeball: Two teams, with up to 10 players on each team, are seperated by a fence that allows bullets to go through but not tanks. All weapons are available.
King-of-the-Hill: Two large teams (16v16) compete for a large payload that does not move and is harder to capture. It’s a variation of payload that emphasizes total control of an area.
Battle-Royale: Up to 64 players compete to be the last player remaining as the storm closes in!
Below is the schedule for when you can see each game mode:
Day | Active Game Mode |
Monday | Capture-the-Flag |
Tuesday | Payload |
Wednesday | Dodgeball |
Thursday | King-of-the-Hill |
Friday | Battle Royale |
Saturday/Sunday | None |
The daily mode will update at 12:00 UTC for every region. This is in the early morning for North America, the afternoon for Europe, and the evening for Asia.
Why?
We understand this update might be controversial because we are supressing some well-liked game modes (e.g. 3v3 is completely gone). However, we believe that consolidating players into less matches will help grow BlockTanks because matches will feel more full.
Someday, we might bring more modes back (or experiment with multiple daily modes), but for now, we believe this is the best option for BlockTanks.
